For over the past
Our mission has been to unite all landscape-related professionals; encourage members to maintain the highest standards of business ethics; provide our members with reliable information and educational programs; offer opportunities for networking; and provide service to the community through volunteer projects, scholarships and educational programs.
Piedmont Professional Grounds Managers (PPGM), as an association of local golf course managers, arborists and tree workers under the auspices of county extension agent Tom Brown and Bill Hoover, director of the Charlottesville Parks and Recreation Department.
Over the years to include landscape architects, designers, consultants and nursery people as well as landscape contractors and maintenance gardeners.
Our first public horticultural seminar was held at the old Albemarle County Office Building. This annual seminar, held in the spring, has become the chief fund-raiser and public face of our organization.
PPGM changed its name to the Piedmont Landscape Association (PLA), to reflect its broader membership, but its roots remain in PPGM's emphasis on a professional code of ethics and educating its members and the general public.
The attendance at our annual seminar exceeded over 600 people from around the region. The event was held at the Paramount Theater in downtown Charlottesville, Virginia.
